Here at AdParlor, we are committed to achieving our mission and vision: Setting the Standard for People-Based Marketing. We’re not able to achieve this mission without a dedicated staff of media and creative experts who live and breathe social, video and display advertising. We’re proud of our culture and community, so we wanted to highlight a little more about who makes the AdParlor team.

We interviewed Derren Dettloff who is an Account Coordinator in our Kansas City office. Check out more about him below.

Q: What is your name?

Derren Dettloff

Q: Where are you from?

I am from kind of all over but I say Florida is home.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

I spend almost all of my free time skydiving and teaching other people how to skydive.

Q: What is your position at AdParlor?

I am an Account Coordinator.

Q: What is your favorite social media network and why?

Instagram. I’m very visual and really subscribe to the saying “A picture is worth a thousand words”.

Q: What is the most challenging part about optimizing paid campaigns on Social Media?

I would say honing in on the right targeting and really taking the time to find out who your actual audience is. It seems many times we have an idea of who our ideal audience or customer is and that blinds us. Taking the time to test different audiences and see who is really benefiting from seeing your ad is crucial. And that’s the name of the game right? Making sure that every ad we put in front of someone, is something relevant to them.

Q: How do you check and stay on top of the latest updates, innovations, and new platforms in social media?

Honestly, being on social media and reading blogs. A perk of being friends with people in the social/marketing industry is that when they share something cool, I get to nerd out as well. Blogs are key though. There is always something new brewing in social and if you want to get a leg up, find people with more experience who are willing to share their tips, tricks and insights on a blog. Most of my work days start by reading industry blogs as I drink my morning energy drink. I always start with the AdParlor blog though, those guys are geniuses.

Q: What is your favorite product that either just came out or is coming out in the future on any social media network?

I love Instagram stories. It took the best part of Snapchat and let you share It with a brand new community. I think the newer generations on social especially, are really into experiences as opposed to products. The whole idea of stories, to me, is being able to share that moment or experience and when the story is over its gone. It really is a cool way to share that cool experience with only those people interested in seeing it during the time it’s happening or shortly thereafter. I’m also excited for the new Vine or V2 I think it’s being called. I think that vine had the most creative content and it will be exciting to see the opportunities it could open up to marketers as well.

Q: What is your favorite part about working at AdParlor?

The people. Our tech is world class but everyone I’ve met here including Ben, our CEO, has been welcoming, helpful and genuinely interested in me as a person not just as an employee. Also, the office music is usually pretty rocking.

Q: If you had a Super power, what would it be?

To fly. Not having to wait on an airplane to skydive would a game changer!
